Making the (right) choice for college-level technical training

Year after year, college-level technical training does well on the lists of the top training programs that are always offered to a large number of high school graduates when the time comes to choose their future programs and CEGEP.

2016 is no exception, as evidenced by the list of technical programs found in the Career Showcase recently published by Septembre éditeur in preparation for the March 1st Operation.

What you should also know is that by 2022, a large number of new jobs created in Quebec will require college-level technical training: no less than 85,000 technologist or technician positions need to be filled from now until then. Young people are given a wide choice among the 132 technical programs offered and among these, more than a hundred have an employment rate higher than 85%, with several of them leading to jobs offering salaries significantly above average, up to $50,000 in the first year!

More importantly, technical training can also lead elsewhere. Every year, about 30% of technical diploma holders decide to pursue their studies at university.

Here are some technical training programs offered in the 2016 Career Showcase:

  • Medical Laboratory Technician
  • Executive Assistant
  • Early Childhood Educator
  • Chemical Engineering Technician
  • Computer Network Technician
  • Special Education Technician
  • Damage Insurance and Financial Services Broker
